Capital City Crew provides free hockey programs for Triangle youth

The program is almost 20 years old, and hundreds of kids and adults have taken part. Some didn't even know how to tie their skates at first, and yet several have gone on to become hockey coaches, achieving their...GOAL!!

"The way this started was out of a casual conversation with the NHL," said Doug Warf, former Carolina Hurricanes President. "They had it all in the northeastern cities, and I said we need one of these in the southeast."

The program doesn't just teach hockey skills but life skills too, such as leadership while at the same time instilling confidence.

Organizers say hockey kids from the program generally make better grades, and their overall attitudes are more positive. They'll even ask Mom if they can help around the house (which means they stay out of the penalty box!).  

Carolina Hurricanes players have supported the program, sometimes strapping on skates and teaching--and inspiring. Go for it! Put the biscuit in the basket! Top shelf!!
