RALEIGH, N.C. — The Pretty In Pink Foundation recently celebrated five years of helping women in North Carolina become breast cancer survivors.

Since its founding in 2004 by breast cancer surgeon Dr. Lisa Tolnitch, the non-profit organization has helped 19 women afford treatment.

“Through Pretty In Pink Foundation, women who are normally classified as the working poor, with limited, if any medical insurance, have an ally when it comes to paying for breast cancer support and treatment. Much has been accomplished over the past five years at Pretty In Pink Foundation and there’s still more work to be done,” Tolnitch said.

The official anniversary celebration was at The Gardens at Rex Hospital on May 18. To commemorate the event, a tree was planted in the courtyard. WRAL-TV’s Debra Morgan helped present Tolnitch with an award honoring her years of service.

The Pretty In Pink Foundation is the only not for profit organization in the state that provides financial resources for uninsured and under-insured breast cancer patients with limited financial means.
