Cat Missing After Fire
CARRBORO, N.C. — Kristin Pietrowicz and Susan Thorne survived an apartment fire by jumping two stories, but lost their cats in the leap.

Thorne and Pietrowicz were holding their cats Oscar and Phoebe when they jumped from a second-story balcony to escape a fire that consumed their apartment building at the Highland Hills complex in Carrboro last Sunday.

No one has seen their cats since then. A friend, Colin Anderson, spent the day after the fire searching for Oscar and Phoebe, but did not have any luck finding them.

Pietrowicz and Thorne are recovering from broken bones and spinal injuries at UNC Hospitals. A third woman was killed in the fire.
