Go…Triangle!

Attention, sports fans! If it’s action-packed excitement and top-rated athletic performances you’re looking for, look no farther than the college and professional sports teams that grace the Triangle area.

A minor league baseball team on which a hit Hollywood film is based, the Southernmost professional hockey team ever to make it to the Stanley Cup final, and college basketball’s most continuously intense rivalry rank high on a long list of options from which to choose in sports entertainment.

Do love and baseball really mix? Rent a copy of the 1988 movie, Bull Durham, and find out for yourself. The film was largely based on the Durham Bulls baseball team and filmed at the team’s historic ballpark. You, however, have the advantage over Susan Sarandon and Kevin Costner in that you can catch a game in the Bulls’ much more modern venue (built in 1995) in downtown Durham. Raleigh has a team, too, the Carolina Mudcats, which won the Southern League Award of Excellence for attendance growth in 2004.

While we have but a relatively few cold days here from January through March, the ice is solid in Raleigh’s RBC Center during the entire NHL season for the Carolina Hurricanes. “Caniacs” run rampant all over the Triangle, and they crazed their way to the Stanley Cup final a couple of years ago.

Are you a Tar Heel, a Wolfpacker, or a Blue Devil? Well, you’d best choose, because we take college basketball real serious around these parts. Real serious. The University of North Carolina/Duke University rivalry is notorious throughout the NCAA. Regular contenders in the Final Four, and several championships between them make attendance at the “Dean Dome” or Cameron Indoor Stadium a must.

It’s just too easy—take advantage of the spectator sporting events in the Triangle. Get your tickets now!
