Man wanted in Rocky Mount shooting

Rocky Mount police are searching for a 31-year-old man they say shot another man late Thursday morning.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Rocky Mount police are searching for a 31-year-old man they say shot another man late Friday morning.

Police said that Eli Stafford, of 500 Hammond St., shot Antoine Staton, 22, while he was on the front porch of his home in the 700 block of Clark Street around 10:20 a.m.

Staton was struck in the arm and leg and transported to Nash General Hospital, police said.

Police have obtained a warrant against Stafford for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Stafford, who also goes by Michael Smith, remains at large.

Stafford was put on probation in October for drug violations, resisting an officer and a traffic violation, according to state Department of Correction records. He has also been convicted of selling drugs.
