I'm meteorologist KD Campbell in the Wral Severe weather center, we tied the record high. 92 degrees was also our 1st 90 degree day of the year out at RDU. That typically happens around May 11th and we average about 290 degree days during the month of May. However, the normal high in early May is just 77. For comparison, the record was tied going back to 2010 for that record. Today. Tomorrow, we're forecasting 90 the record's 93 a long standing record set all the way back in 1959. Let's talk about the weekend. It is not going to be so hot this weekend, but we've got the chance for some scattered showers and storms and it's going to be feeling a bit more humid as we see more moisture moving in 83 on Saturday, 81 on Sunday. We have high resolution model data available for Saturday and that's giving us a better idea of the hour by hour rain chances. So we customize these numbers for you when we went through our afternoon forecast cycle, about a 20% chance of rain in the morning through noon. A 30% chance during the early afternoon and rain chances peak at 40% so scattered storms late in the afternoon and into the evening future casts gives you a good idea of what we could see for the day Friday. We're likely to see dry weather throughout the day hitting 90 for a high at night. We can't rule out a stray storm pushing into our western counties but only a 20% chance Saturday, The axis of heavier rain is likely to stay just west of us. We could see some scattered showers and storms later in the day. And then Sunday as that boundary shifts east, we'll have a better chance of rain and storms. These are still going to be scattered in nature. So we're going with about a 50% chance of storms Sunday. Let's talk about the drought update. This was updated today and it shows abnormally dry conditions in yellow are expanding across the state. We're not upgraded to moderate drought anywhere at this point, but the abnormally dry region expanded by 20% from last week to this week. So we really need some rain. Saturday. I'm thinking a quarter of an inch of rain or less. We could see a little bit more on Sunday and you'll have additional chances for scattered storms Monday and Tuesday after that, just smaller rain chances, but the heat is back by Wednesday and Thursday of next week. We've got a couple of 90 degree days on the horizon.
