In addition to rising gas prices, shoppers are also dealing with higher grocery store bills. To help ease some of the burden, Lidl announced it will begin dropping prices on more than 100 items in all North Carolina stores.

According to Lidl, the price-cutting campaign, which begins June 8 and continues through August, will help save shoppers more than $50 on a basket of included items.

Savings per item range anywhere from 25 cents to $1.25.

Some of the discounted items include top sirloin steak ($8.44), boneless pork chops ($4.39), Starkist tuna pouch ($1), Solevita lemonade ($1.95), apple juice ($1.48), animal crackers ($2.75) and potato salad ($3.19).

The consumer price index reports food prices are more than 9% higher than in 2021 and meat and dairy prices continue to soar.

WRAL Smart Shopper Faye Prosser said there are still good deals, you just have to know where and when to find them. Her best advice to save money at the grocery store? Plan ahead, meal prep and buy less meat.
