Lejeune Marine killed in Afghanistan

A Camp Lejeune Marine was killed in Afghanistan on Tuesday, the military announced Thursday.

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — A Camp Lejeune Marine was killed in Afghanistan on Tuesday, the military announced Thursday.

Military officers said that Cpl. Johnathan W. Taylor, 23, of Homosassa, Fla., was killed during a combat operation in the Helmand province.

Taylor deployed with the 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force to Afghanistan in January.

It was his fourth deployment, including two previous tours of duty in Afghanistan and one in Iraq.

Taylor joined the Marine Corps in 2006 and was promoted to corporal in 2009.

His awards include the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and NATO Medal-ISAF Afghanistan.
