Lejeune Marine killed in Afghanistan

Lance Cpl. Philip P. Clark, 19, of Gainesville, Fla., died May 18 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, officials said.

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — A Marine based at Camp Lejeune died last week in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Monday.

Lance Cpl. Philip P. Clark, 19, of Gainesville, Fla., died May 18 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, officials said.

Clark was a rifleman assigned to 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force. He joined the Marines in June 2008 and was deployed to Afghanistan in December.

He is survived by his wife.
