Lejeune Marine, Bragg soldier killed in Afghanistan

A Camp Lejeune Marine and a Fort Bragg soldier were killed Thursday in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Friday.

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — A Camp Lejeune Marine and a Fort Bragg soldier were killed Thursday in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Friday.

Marine Lance Cpl. Scott D. Harper, 21, of Winston, Ga., died while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, officials said.

Harper was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force.

Army Staff Sgt. Robert B. Cowdrey, 39, of Atwater, Ohio, died in Kunar province from injuries suffered during combat operations.

Cowdrwy was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division.
