Lawyer attacked near Durham County jail
A lawyer was attacked on streets near the Durham County jail Tuesday morning, police said.
Posted — UpdatedLawyer Donald Dickerson was attacked by Jose Manuel Diaz Torres, 46, of Durham, near Mangum and Pettigrew streets shortly before 10 a.m., police spokeswoman Kammie Michael.
Dickerson and Torres were both treated for injuries at Duke University Hospital.
Michael said that it does not appear that Torres knew the victim, nor were there indications of a robbery.
Torres was charged with aggravated assault, assault on a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct and resisting, delaying and obstructing an officer.
Torres was listed as an absconder from parole stemming from a 2008 conviction for driving while impaired, state Department of Correction records show.
