LUMBERTON, N.C. — The man accused of firing gunshots inside a Walmart store on Black Friday has turned himself in to Lumberton police officers.

Jarod Denzel Lowery, 26, of Lumberton, is at the Robeson County Jail under a $1 million bond.

Lowery is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, discharging a firearm within enclosure to incite fear and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

One person was hospitalized Friday after getting shot inside the Walmart Supercenter, according to Lumberton police.

Lumberton police officers responded around 11:26 a.m. Friday at the store located at 5070 Fayetteville Road. Police said surveillance footage shows the shooter leaving the store as it was evacuated.

Minutes later, police received word that a person arrived at UNC Health Southeastern with a gunshot wound, which is not considered life threatening. Authorities are not releasing the victim's name.

Police believe the shooting happened between two people who know each other.

Authorities are working to find Lowery.

No one else was injured, according to Lumberton police.

As of 2 p.m. ET Friday, the scene is clear and the store is closed. The store reopened on Sunday morning.

Shane Baker was inside the store during Friday's shooting.

"I heard the guy make a threat," Baker said. "He said, 'I'll kill everyone in here.'"

Baker worked to shuttle between 10 to 15 people inside a meat locker for safety. He said all he could do is stand at the door.

"[I] didn't know if he was [going to] find us or not," Baker said of the shooter.

Baker explained how the shooting started.

"They started arguing," Baker said. "The arguing became more aggressive ... and I knew that something was about to happen.

"I said , 'let's get down. Get down.' By the time we got on the floor, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop. Five [or] six rounds is what I heard."

Lumberton police, Robeson County deputies and North Carolina state troopers responded to the scene.

"We're working closely with local law enforcement, and they will need to field any questions you might have," Walmart senior manager Ashley Nolan wrote in an email to WRAL News.
