Large fire consumes Spouter Inn Restaurant in Beaufort

The fire was reported around 5:09 a.m., according to the Town of Beaufort. The Spouter Inn, along with at least two other businesses and an apartment right above it, were affected.

The building is considered a total loss. Everyone was evacuated from the building, and no injuries have been reported.

The business's website says it has been open for over 30 years.

"It's horrible," said David Cartier, who has lived in the town for eight years and started the Historic Beaufort NC Facebook page. "The timing couldn't have been worse. Our hearts go out to those affected."

At least seven residents were displaced.

Firefighters were still battling the blaze at 10 a.m. Residents were asked to avoid the area.
