HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — Cajun restaurant LaPlace Louisiana Cookery is closing its doors next week.

Owners announced via Facebook on Tuesday that the restaurant is changing concepts.

LaPlace Louisiana Cookery, named for a small town in southern Louisiana, opened its doors five years ago at 111 N. Churton Street. It will close on April 8.

"These last five years have been amazing. We've had the support of countless wonderful people in Hillsborough and beyond as we dove deep into Louisiana cuisine and culture, and enjoyed exploring every creative pathway it led us down. Many meals served, and even more memories made. We humbly thank you for allowing us to do what we love to do each and every day," owners wrote.

The restaurant is changing its name to James Pharmacy, a nod to the building it occupies and its history. The restaurant will serve fresh North Carolina seafood.

"Many of our company hallmarks will remain - the creative beverage program of well-crafted cocktails, the freshest ingredients we can find, our popular Sunday brunches, and our famous Bloody Mary menu," owners said, noting that there will also be improved outdoor seating and an expanded beer and wine selection.
