Raleigh, N.C. — Water quality in Lake Wheeler in Raleigh has returned to normal levels, the city reported Friday. Authorities closed the beach to recreational activities Tuesday due to elevated levels of bacteria in the water. It was the third time this month that Wake County Environmental Services closed the beach.
Authorities have closed the beach each Tuesday in the month of August. Each week it is reopened after subsequent tests.
The city always prohibits swimming at Lake Wheeler, but allows kayaking, sailboating and windsurfing.
