The Kroger locations in Garner and Fuquay-Varina have announced that they will be closing for good on Saturday, August 11.

Multiple Kroger stores have already closed and the remaining Triangle stores should be closed by August 14.

The pharmacy at the Fuquay-Varina location will stay open until August 14 and then it will re-open on August 16 as a Harris Teeter pharmacy. The opening date for the rest of the store has not been announced.

The fuel center at the Fuquay-Varina location will be open until August 14.

The Garner location has very little stock at this point and most sections of the store are empty, as you can see in the photos.

Kroger announced in mid-June that they would be closing all stores in the Triangle area by August 14, 2018.

"After a thorough evaluation of the market for a significant time period, we have decided to close out stores in the highly competitive Raleigh-Durham market," said Jerry Clontz, president of the Mid-Atlantic Division of Kroger.

Clontz said that the grocery store market in the area is oversaturated and the company has not been able to grow their business in the way they desired.

A number of additional Kroger stores and pharmacies have already closed.

Kroger store officials said the closings will result in about 1,500 employees losing their jobs. Over half of those employees are employed part time. Employees have attended job fairs in the hopes of finding a new position when their jobs end at Kroger. They have not been guaranteed jobs at the Kroger stores that are transitioning to Harris Teeter stores.
