CARY, N.C. — After being closed for more than 400 days, Koka Booth Amphitheatre will reopen to the public Thursday to show an outdoor movie and, later, jazz performances.

The Movies by Moonlight series will kick off on April 1 and run through May 28. "Green Book," "Captain Marvel" and "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" are among the planned films.

The Josh Cellars Jazz Series will start on April 7 with La Fiesta and continue through May 5.

Tickets for both events are available via the Booth Amphitheatre website.

In addition to these events, the North Carolina Symphony will be continue its tradition of summer performances at Booth Amphitheatre starting in June.

“Virtual is great but we do know that there is no replacement for the in person experience for live music and live entertainment," Town of Cary Cultural Arts Manager William Lewis said.

To ensure safety, the amphitheatre will be starting with reduced capacity of 800 people per event. That number will increase as restrictions ease.

"For our first show, out of the 800 seats we have about 200," described Lewis. "We feel really good about that for the start and we do anticipate it being a little cool tonight."

Guests are required to wear face coverings and practice social distancing.

Pod seating has been created to help with distancing. There are 150 pods that will hold four to six people. Guests will need to buy a pod regardless of their party size.

"[We] feel really good about people being able to get here tonight, finding their pods and getting ready to be entertained," said Lewis.

"Pods are good. They've got a good distance, even once it starts getting crowded this evening I think there will be plenty of room for everybody," said attendee Dana Lewis.

Concessions will be limited and the flow of foot traffic will be one-way.
