Knightdale names new police chief
Town officials on Thursday named Lawrence Capps as Knightdale police chief.
Posted — UpdatedCapps, who has worked for the Knightdale Police Department for four years, succeeds Jason Godwin, who leaves the department Friday for a private-sector job.
“We’re grateful to have someone with Lawrence’s skill set and knack for relationship building in this important position,” Mayor Russell Killen said in a statement. “He has already proven himself as a leader.”
Capps previously worked as a corrections officer and is a criminal justice instructor at Johnston Community College. He recently graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va.
A graduate of Smithfield-Selma High School and Johnston Community College, Capps is expected to earn a criminal justice degree from Fayetteville State University in 2015.
