CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Kidzu Children's Museum has some expansion plans. But first it needs support from the community.

In an email to museum goers and supporters, Kidzu shared that it's working on plans to transform the storefront next to the museum, which sits inside University Place, into a space for babies and toddlers. The Nest will serve as an early learning lab reserved for little ones ages 0 to 3 and their caregivers.

"At Kidzu, we know how important it is to encourage children to explore from a very young age," the email says. "Before the age of three, a child's brain forms more than a million neural connections each second! When these connections are formed in a safe, guided environment, children experience everything from better grades to healthier relationships throughout their lives."

The Nest, says the email, would allow visitors to learn and play in an intimate, carefully-constructed environment.

"Through partnerships with UNC and the NC Reggio Emilia Collaborative, our space would better support our earliest learners and their caregivers, enabling children to develop critical-thinking, problem-solving, and socio-emotional skills that will last a lifetime," the email says.

Kidzu is seeking donations from the public to help build the new space. You can learn more about how you can help on Kidzu's website.
