Kathy Hanrahan: A year of medical emergencies
I actually sat down and ran the numbers on how many times my family had to go to urgent care and the ER. We had a rough year and every time I think we are going to get healthy again, something else happens!
Posted — UpdatedJust before Christmas I got a terrible stomach bug and, as I write this now, my son has a sore throat (but tested negative for flu and COVID).
I bring to you the 12 medical instances my family had to deal with in 2021 (set to the "12 days of Christmas"):
The first thing that 2021 gave to me - My first CT scan
The second thing that 2021 gave to me - 2 negative COVID tests
The third thing that 2021 gave to me - 3 COVID vaccinated people in my house
The fourth thing that 2021 gave to me: 4 emergency room visits (2 were me and 2 were my children)
The sixth thing that 2021 gave to me: A ruptured cyst on my ovary
The seventh thing that 2021 gave to me: My toddler's giant hand after a bad reaction from a bug bite!
The eighth thing that 2021 gave to me: 8 urgent care visits
The 10th thing that 2021 gave to me: 3 EKGs
The 11th thing that 2021 gave to me: gallbladder removal surgery
The 12th thing that 2021 gave to me: A met deductible!
And despite this wacky year of medical stuff, I managed to lose 30 pounds, which is what triggered my gallstones and my gallbladder removal.
This year has had some bumps in the road, but hopefully 2022 will bring us some better luck! Here's to better health and even better insurance coverage!
