WAKE FOREST, N.C. — A judge has raised a Youngsville man's bond by $200,000 after he was accused of assaulting an 11-year-old girl in the aisles of a Walmart in Wake Forest.

Raymond Leonard Mancini was arrested and charged with second-degree kidnapping and taking indecent liberties with a child.

In court, Mancini told Judge Mark Stevens he had "never done this before."

"This defendant walks up to her, told her, 'I'm sorry, I have to do this,' grabbed her around the waist, restraining her in place and then began to try to pull her pants down," said prosecutor Katie Pomeroy.

The child's mother, Holly Haag, said she heard her daughter scream. When she turned around, she saw the man put his hands up and walk away.

Mancini has previous charges of misdemeanor larceny and skipping bail in New York. Police used Walmart's security footage to find the man.

When police arrived at Mancini's house on Saturday to make an arrest, they said he slammed the door on them and locked himself inside the home. He cut himself on his arms, so that when police did arrest him, they had to take him to a nearby hospital.

His next court appearance will be on Aug. 9.
