RALEIGH, N.C. — A Superior Court judge on Thursday approved a request by the Raleigh Police Department to release footage from officers' body-worn cameras showing an incident during a downtown protest last week that led to a woman's arrest.

Judge Graham Shirley ordered that the face of a juvenile who was taken into custody during the protest be blurred in the police video, so it's unclear when the department will release the video publicly.

The juvenile was one of two people detained during the NC BORN protest on June 18.
No charges were filed against the juvenile, and a charge of resisting, delaying or obstructing a law enforcement officer was dismissed against a woman who was arrested after eyewitness video sparked outrage on social media.
Police Chief Cassandra Deck-Brown said the video taken during the arrest doesn't show what led up to it. Still, she said she is concerned by the actions of some of the officers in the video, so she launched an internal investigation.

According to Deck-Brown, police have tried to assist with peaceful protests by blocking traffic so people could march through intersections unscathed, but she said protesters on that night started running into traffic and creating hazards.

The chief hasn't disclosed how many officers are being investigated and if they’re still on the job.

An outside consultant has already been hired to look into officers' response to protests in late May and make recommendations by the end of September.
