HERE'S MORE ON THAT STORY FROM AMANDA LAMB. >> Reporter: DEFENSE ATTORNEYS RAISED SOME COMPELLING ARGUMENTS AT THE WARREN COUNTY COURTHOUSE. THEY SAID THE VICTIM MISIDENTIFIED BECAUSE THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY AND SHERIFF HAD PRESS CONFERENCE AND RELEASED THE PHOTOGRAPH BEFORE HE HAD A CHANCE TO LOOK AT AN ADDITIONAL LINEUP. THEY SAID THAT HE WAS 10 MILES AWAY FROM THE CRIME SEEN. AND THE DEFENDER THAT USED HIS NAME GAVE THAT TO INVESTIGATORS. THEY SAID NONE OF THIS WAS ENOUGH FOR THE JUDGE TO GRANT HIM BOND. TOOK THE NOT TRYING TO SPARE HIM THE DEATH PENALTY HE SAID HE DIDN'T COMMIT THE CRIME. HE'S ACCUSED OF INVADING THE HOME IN 2018, ASSAULTING, ROBBING THEM, KILLING THE WIFE AND SETTING THE HOUSE ON FIRE. HIS CODEFENDANT LIED ABOUT HIS INVOLVEMENT TO INVESTIGATORS. PHONE RECORDS SHOW HE WAS NOWHERE NEAR THE CRIME SEEN. >> HE COULD NOT HAVE BEEN THE HOME INTRUDER. HE WAS USING THE PHONE AT HIS GIRLFRIENDS WHILE THE CRIME WAS TAKING PLACE. >> Reporter: HE TOOK A PLEA DEAL TO AVOID THE DEATH PENALTY AND AGREED TO TESTIFY. HE HAS SINCE BACKED AWAY FROM THE DEAL. THEY PLAYED A PHONE CALL WHERE HE EXPRESSES REMORSE FOR IDENTIFYING THE SUSPECT. THE STATE PUT ON EVIDENCE FROM A DIRECTOR OF CENTRAL PRISON WHO TESTIFIED THAT HE HAD WRITTEN SEVERAL LOVERS LETTERS. >> TELL THEM THEY ARE OUT THERE ENJOYING THEIR LIVES. >> Reporter: THEY SAID THAT HE NEVER GAVE INVESTIGATORS HIS NAME. AND THE FBI BROUGHT UP HIS NAME. ANOTHER THING THE JUDGE DENIED THE DEFENSE WANTED HIM MOVED TO THE LOCAL JAIL NOT AT CENTRAL PRISON. THE SAID IT'S HARD TO GET ACCESS TO HIM. AND THAT WAS DENIED. Hope you're having a nice Saturday. This is meteorologist Brian Schrader in the WRL severe weather center, mostly cloudy through the rest of the afternoon. It's gonna be a mild day with high temperatures in the upper seventies around the Triangle area, maybe touching 80 degrees in Fayetteville. We could see a few peaks of sun later in the afternoon as we take a look at future cast, you can see around four o'clock, maybe some of those clouds breaking up a little bit. Also you see on here a chance of some showers, especially south of the Triangle that's going to be with us as we head into the evening hours. So if you have dinner plans in Fayetteville, Pinehurst, Rayford, Lillington, Sanford Clinton, just want to keep that in mind. Much better chance of some showers breaking out much later this evening and into the overnight hours. But a nice afternoon to do some tailgating out at PNC Arena, the Cane play at five o'clock and you're going to be in good shape out there with temperatures in the mid and upper seventies again, mostly cloudy skies, but you will stay dry in the triangle the way it looks right now. Now let's take a look at tomorrow. We have a front that is going to be settling to our south waves of energy. A low pressure riding along it could bring us a pretty wet day tomorrow. Take a look at future cast widespread rain taking over the area as we head into the afternoon. This is not going to be heavy rain, just a light rain and it's also going to be really chilly tomorrow as compared with what we've seen over the past several days. Look at that high, just 61 degrees that may be measured at midnight. And then as we head through the rest of the morning, temperatures may gradually fall into the upper fifties. So tomorrow afternoon is going to be a chilly dreary damp day. Rain comes to an end. Sunday night. We have a little bit of a warm up as we head into Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday looks dry. Note those chilly mornings though, with low temperatures in the mid forties. Many mornings next week, I am watching a front for a late in the week that could bring us a chance of showers by Thursday or Friday.
