DURHAM, N.C. — The Jordan High School student body president says she hopes the anger students are feeling after a video surfaced on social media that shows a student using racial slurs and sexist comments can be turned into something positive.

The video, originally posted on Twitter, is making its rounds around the social media feeds of students at Jordan High.

It shows a rising senior and student athlete using repeated profanities and racially-charged language.

Due to its profanity, WRAL News declined to show the video.

Students on social media are fighting back and even encouraging a possible boycott of Jordan High’s lacrosse and football games if the student is allowed to play.

"I understand that people are angry, but I think it's time that we take that anger and we turn it into something positive," said student body president Aminah Jenkins. "We're hoping that this anger will be translated into productive work, so that everyone who is involved in Jordan's community is now moved to work on methods of education and prevention."

Jordan High students said most of their classmates have seen the video.

Alfredo Valdez called it "unbelievable."

"He could get expelled for this, and I'd say that would be a fair punishment," Valdez said.

Durham Public Schools spokesman Chip Sudderth said disciplining the student in the video is complicated.

"It's complicated because this was intended to be personal communication that was copied and redistributed," Sudderth said. "It was made outside of the school year and without the use of school resources."

He said school officials are talking with the student's family and are deciding what's appropriate.

School starts at Jordan High on Aug. 27.
