Johnston man will pay his mortgage with $120,000 lottery win

Bryan Caves of Willow Spring said he will use his recent $120,000 Cash 5 win to pay off part of his mortgage.

“I was ecstatic,” Caves said. “Just surprised and elated.”

Caves bought the $1 ticket from Logan’s Safeway Mini Mart on N.C. 210 in Four Oaks, a store he owns. He bought the ticket from one of his cashiers.

His ticket matched all five numbers to win the jackpot in the Nov. 16 drawing. The odds of matching numbers on all five balls are 1 in 962,598.

Caves called his wife to tell her the good news.

“She couldn’t believe it so she drove to the store to double-check it,” he laughed.

Caves took home his prize Tuesday. After taxes, he took home $85,501.

He said he will use it for home repairs and to pay off part of his mortgage.
