Johnston County reports two wastewater spills

Clayton, N.C. — Johnston County officials reported a two wastewater spills of untreated wastewater on Friday.
Officials said one spill included approximately 46,750 gallons of and happened in the vicinity of 3146 Swift Creek Road in Smithfield. The call came in about the spill at 4:20 p.m. Friday and it ended at around 6:30 p.m. Officials said the spill was caused by a failure of pipe material belonging to the Johnston County wastewater collection system.
The second spill was of around 3,600 gallons of untreated wastewater into Mill Creek in the vicinity of 1457 W. Noble St. in Selma. Officials said the spill began at 10:45 a.m. and was capped by 1:45 p.m. A pipe fitting failure was the cause of this spill.
Officials said the Division of Water Resources was notified of the events and is reviewing the matter.
