Johnston County Museum holds grand opening

The museum is located in the former home of Rose's Department Store at 329 E. Market St. in downtown Smithfield

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — A grand opening was held Wednesday for Johnston County Heritage Center's new County Museum.

The museum is located in the former home of Rose's Department Store at 329 E. Market St. in downtown Smithfield. A soft opening of the museum was held Oct. 8 when it unveiled a special exhibit to commemorate Ava Gardner's 100th birthday.

The museum provides a glimpse into the history of the county and also has a gift shop.

The museum is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Heritage Center's research collection at 241 E. Market St. is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Both facilities will be closed for the holidays Dec. 23 through 27.
