Four Oaks, N.C. — A 62-year-old man was being held in the Johnston County Jail Wednesday night, after he was charged with abusing animals, authorities said.
Bobby Gene Barbour is charged with cruelty to animals and assault inflicting bodily injury.
Neighbors who live near Barbour said they are relieved authorities finally stepped in. They say they have complained about the sometimes filthy and unsanitary conditions several dogs were forced to live in on the property.
In a video taken by a neighbor, a dead dog is seen on the property, and no water or food is seen.
Barbour was being jailed on a $150,000 bond. He is expected to make his next court appearance on July 5.
