Johnston County consignment shop catches fire

Flames tore through the Nu-2-U Consignment Shop, at 1890 Mallard Road, just before 1 a.m. Monday, authorities said.

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — A consignment shop near Smithfield in Johnston County caught fire overnight.

Flames tore through the Nu-2-U Consignment Shop, at 1890 Mallard Road, just before 1 a.m. Monday, Smithfield Fire Marshal Paul Whitehurst said.

Crews had to bring in extra water to fight the fire.

The store is owned by a woman and her daughter, Whitehurst said. They were not at the store when the fire broke out.

A passerby reported the fire which mainly damaged the back of the building.

There were no injuries.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Monday afternoon.
