CLAYTON, N.C. — After several hours, a huge brushfire near Clayton was under control Saturday.

At least 200 acres burned off Highway 42 and Buffalo Road, and 80 firefighters were on the scene from five different departments.

No homes were threatened, officials said.

“We’ll have trees burning all night, but as far as the danger, there won’t be any danger once we leave here,” said Wilson Mills Fire Chief Ricky Barbour.

Firefighters said the light wind kept the fire from getting too out of control.
