Did you know the idea behind Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band originated in Raleigh?

Buffett was inspired to form the Coral Reefer Band while performing in Raleigh decades ago at The Pier, one venue in a series underground clubs and restaurants known as the Village Subway.

Buffett alludes to the Coral Reefer band’s creation on his album cover, "Havana Daydreamin’," writing, “The band had its embryonic origin in a claustrophobic dressing room in Raleigh. Surrounded on three sides by appreciative, but fanatic fans who wouldn’t let us out, I turned to Roger and calmly screamed, ‘I can’t do this [sic] much longer. If I don’t get a band, I’ll go crazy.”

Soon after, Buffett officially announced his Coral Reefer Band.
