Jacksonville man dies while serving in Iraq

Sgt. Devin C. Poche, 25, of Jacksonville, died in Iraq Tuesday, the U.S. Army announced on Friday.

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — A soldier from Jacksonville died in Iraq Tuesday, the U.S. Army announced on Friday.

Sgt. Devin C. Poche, 25, died at Contingency Operating Base Speicher, near Tikrit. Poche was injured in a noncombat-related incident.

The military did not provide more details of the circumstances surrounding his death but said they were under investigation.

Poche was assigned to the Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks in Hawaii.
