CNN — British rapper J Hus stunned fans by joining Drake on stage during a concert at London's O2 Arena on Friday -- shortly after being granted an early release from prison.

J Hus was sentenced to eight months in December after police found him carrying a knife at a London shopping center.

His cameo appearance during the Canadian star's concert was rapturously received by fans, who were unaware he been been released.

"If anyone's sitting down right now, I need you to stand up because we're going to celebrate one of our brothers tonight," Drake told the crowd, as the message "Welcome Home" appeared on stage.

J Hus, whose real name is Momodou Jallow, found critical acclaim and commercial success with his debut album, "Common Sense," in 2017.

The Brit Award-nominated star was arrested in June for possession of a knife, after police stopped his car near Westfield Shopping Center in west London.

He told police, "You know, it's Westfield," when questioned about why he held a weapon, the Press Association reported. The rapper had previously been arrested near the shopping center.

The minimum sentence for repeat offenders convicted of carrying a knife in a public place is six months, and the rapper received an eight-month sentence in December.

He became one of the most high-profile figures to be jailed during Britain's ongoing knife crime epidemic.

In the year ending June 2018, 21,101 knife-related cases were dealt with by the Ministry of Justice -- the highest number recorded since June 2010.

The star performed his hit "Did You See," which reached the top 10 in the UK singles chart, on stage with Drake.
