DURHAM, N.C. — Last year, Chef Josh DeCarolis teamed up with a Saxapahaw butchery, Left Bank, to open Alimentari at Left Bank at Transfer Food Co.

Alimentari offers fresh pasta, sauces, Charcuterie and cheeses.

"Lots of fresh pork and beef," DeCarolis said, noting that Left Bank is a whole animal butchery. "All the pigs come from one place, one farm, Cane Creek Farms, and then all of the beef comes from another farm, Rayburn Farm."

DeCarolis teamed up with Matt Kelly to open Italian trattoria Mothers and Sons in 2016. That restaurant is closed right now amid the coronavirus pandemic, but DeCarolis said people can still get some of those famous flavors next door at the Alimentari pop-up grocery in the former Lucky's Deli space.

There isn't enough beef and pork to offer at both locations, so the Durham space is offering additional products.

"In place of the fresh meat, we're selling farm vegetables, stuff that we would usually use at Mothers and Sons on our menu," DeCarolis. "We're using it, putting it in the case so we can still support our farms and provide that fresh stuff for our guests." The Durham location also has take and bake meals.

Both Alimentari locations are offering curbside pick-up, in addition to in-store shopping. Each location, however, is limiting the number of people inside to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

"We still want to be a part of the community and we want to provide some kind of semblance of normalcy for our guests," DeCarolis said.

Orders can be placed online at each location's website. Get more information about Raleigh here and Durham here.
