Early voting opens Thursday, July 7, for July 26 municipal elections across North Carolina.

The early voting period for 2022 municipal and local second primary elections begins Thursday and ends at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2022.

In central North Carolina, there are runoff elections on the ballot in Cary, Rocky Mount and Franklin County.

Due to a delay caused by redistricting, there are general elections in Sanford and Fayetteville. The mayor's race and all nine city council seats are on the ballot in Fayetteville.

And in Wake County, voters will narrow the field in the Wake sheriff race between Democratic candidates Willie Rowe and incumbent Gerald Baker. The winner of the runoff will face Republican challenger Donnie Harrison in November.
Early voting sites and hours vary by county, but all eligible voters can vote at any early voting site within their home county. This differs from election day, when you must vote at your assigned polling place.
Not every voter will be eligible to participate in these elections. Those who have already voted on the Republican ballot in the sheriff's race, for example, can't vote in the runoff race for the Democratic candidate. Check your voting record for a sample ballot to see the races you can vote in on July 26.
