FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County Sheriff's Office investigators are looking for a suspect who made off with more than two dozen laptops from a Cumberland County elementary school.
Officials said the suspect used a shopping cart to haul the laptops away from Morganton Road Elementary School off Bonanza Drive.

The break-in happened Sunday.

Officer didn't know Sunday that any items had actually been taken, sheriff's office spokesman LT. Patrice Bogertey said.

"On Monday when the teachers got to school, they realized there were several items missing from their classrooms," Bogertey said. More than 25 Chromebooks meant for students were taken.

The laptops are worth about $300 each, meaning the suspect made off with more than $7,000 worth of goods. The district purchased the laptops in bulk for remote learning last year.

The thief took other supplies, including learning aids.

The school has security cameras outside.

Investigators said there wasn't any forced entry into the school building, so they're trying to figure out how the suspect got in. They said anyone with information should contact the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

School starts Aug. 23.
