AND HAS SINCE GONE VIRAL. YOU CAN SEE OFFICERS KNEELING WITH PROTESTERS FOR SOME TIME. THE DEPARTMENT SAYS OFFICERS WANTED TO SO THEY ARE COMMITTED TO TREATING EVERYONE WITH DIGNITY AND RESPECT. WE ARE FORTUNATE TO BE JOINED BY FAVOR POLICE CHIEF AND HOPKINS TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THIS MOMENT. WE HAVE COME IN THE BEGINNING SHARING HOW ANGRY WE ARE ABOUT WHAT WE WATCHED IN MINNEAPOLIS WITH GEORGE FLOYD. I MADE A STATEMENT THAT I WAS NOT-MY ENTIRE DEPARTMENT WAS ANGRY. THE PROTESTS WALKING YESTERDAY, THE PROTESTERS DID NOT REALIZE BECAUSE OF THE STATE EMERGENCY, WE HAVE THE DOWNTOWN CLOSED OFF. AS THEY WERE WALKING, IT BECAME VOLATILE BECAUSE ONE PERSON WAS ARRESTED. AT THE SCENE, WHEN WE HAD TO HOLD THE FIELD FOR STEAM WERE THERE. WE TALK ABOUT RELATIONSHIPS, WE TALK ABOUT BUILDING TRUST. MY OFFICERS WERE DOING THEIR JOB AND THE PROTESTERS WERE HAVING THEIR VOICE. AT THE SCENE, WHAT WAS OCCURRING WAS ONE OF THE OFFICERS, ON THE SCENE, HAD RELATIONSHIPS WITH MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY YEARS FROM PLAYING BASKETBALL BECAUSE WE ARE PART OF THE COMMUNITY. HE BEGAN LITERALLY TALKING THROUGH TEXT, NOT THE LEADERSHIP, NOT ME, NOT THE COMMANDERS, THE INDIVIDUAL OFFICERS OUT THERE PATROLLING ON THE STREET ONE AT A TIME. IT IS NOT JUST ME, IT'S THE DEPARTMENT OF A WHOLE, BUILDING A RELATIONSHIP. THEY BEGAN TALKING THROUGH TEXT AND PHONE CALLS ASKING FOR THE BLT TO EXPRESS AND ABILITY TO EXPRESS OUR UNDERSTANDING. THROUGH THAT, WE WANTED TO SHARE , WITH THEM, ALL THEY ASK WAS WILL WE SHOW SOLIDARITY AND UNDERSTANDING AND EMPATHIZE WE KNOW THAT FEELING BY TAKING AMY WITH THEM? WITH THAT, WITH THAT ONE CONVERSATION AND ONE RELATIONSHIP AND OTHER IN THE CROWD, AND BEGAN TO SAY ASKING UP, EMPOWERING THEM TO SAY CAN WE DO THIS? ABSOLUTELY, WE CAN. WE HAVE BEEN WILLING TO DO THIS. WE HAVE BEEN PART OF THE CONVERSATION. WE WANT TO BE PART OF THE PROTESTS, WE WANT TO WALK WITH THE COMMUNITY BUT AT THE SAME TIME,  WE HAVE TO MAKE A JOB TO PROTECT THE COMMUNITY. EVERYONE IN THAT CROWD WAS NOT OUR COMMUNITY. EVERYONE IN THAT CROWD DID NOT HAVE GOOD INTENTIONS. IT RESULTED IN US TAKING AMY AND WHEN I TELL YOU BEFORE AND AFTER HAND, THE EMOTIONS THAT WERE THERE, EMOTIONS AND MY COMMAND CENTER, WHEN WE WERE WATCHING IT, THE EMOTIONS, ALL OF THAT, WE WERE SO FULL AND WE SAW A MOVEMENT OF WE ARE MOVING. A MOMENT OF WE UNDERSTAND TOGETHER, A MOMENT OF NOW WE HAVE A MEANING TODAY TO TALK AND HAVE A CONVERSATION WITH ONE OF THE LEADERS OUT THERE. I'M ALWAYS ACCESSIBLE, WE ALWAYS WANT TO HEAR WHAT EVERYONE HAS TO SAY. KNOW THAT WE ALL HAVE DIFFERENT JOBS TO DO. THIS PROFESSION, WE ARE IN IT BECAUSE WE WANT TO PROTECT THE PEOPLE WHO CANNOT PROTECT THEMSELVES. WE WANT TO PROTECT THE COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE BUT WE KNOW WE NEED THE PARTNERSHIP, WE ALWAYS NEED TO HEAR THEIR VOICE AND THAT'S THE MESSAGE TO KNOW IT IS A PARTNERSHIP, NOT LAW ENFORCEMENT AGAINST THE COMMUNITY. I'm meteorologist Amy Wing in the WRL severe weather center. We have a lot of sunshine over North Carolina today, but clouds will be moving in overnight tonight and through the day tomorrow and eventually storms will get here today. The severe weather threat is well to the west of us. You can see that in those bright shades of reds, oranges and yellows. As the system gets closer to North Carolina tomorrow, it loses some of its energy. Most of the energy will be south of North Carolina. But in the afternoon and evening, we do have some weak energy so some isolated, severe storms will be possible from around southern Wake County and points to the west and southwest. This would be for tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow evening, it's about a 30 to 40% chance for showers and storms tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow evening. And then as we get into Saturday, it looks mainly dry, but we'll have another round of rain. On Sunday, we do have another cold front that arrives this weekend and a low pressure system moving along that front will likely provide us with some rain, especially the second half of the day. On Sunday, also note we're on the cool side of the front and so temperatures will be much cooler. On Sunday, temperatures will be down into the forties, Sunday night and Monday night, high temperatures will stay in the sixties as we head into Sunday afternoon and Monday afternoon. So we're going from this warm summer like pattern to some much cooler temperatures the second half of the weekend and into early next week. But highs are back in the mid to upper seventies as we head into Tuesday and Wednesday.
