RALEIGH, N.C. — Durham police on Wednesday arrested a Raleigh elementary school intern training to become an assistant principal.

Desitini Artis, 27, of  5907 Osprey Cove Drive, was arrested at her home in Raleigh on charges of attempted breaking and entering, breaking and entering, damage to real property, damage to personal property, possession of burglary tools and larceny.

The circumstances of the arrest were not immediately clear, but Wake County Public School System spokesman Michael Evans said the charges had nothing to do with her position at the Durant Road Elementary School and characterized it as a domestic incident.

Artis, who is a paid administrative intern for the state, was suspended without pay pending the outcome of the investigation, Evans said.

She worked, however, as a teacher for the school system at Zebulon Elementary School for the 2005-2006 school year and River Oaks Middle School for the 2006-2007 school year, Evans said.

She resigned in July 2007 to return to school to pursue an advanced degree.
