Raleigh, N.C. — We're so fortunate to live close enough to the beach that you can ride down – even for the day – and have a nice, long day relaxing by the ocean.
There are three apps that can keep you safe in the surf and help you plan the perfect time to have some fun in the sun.
Swim Guide: This app is about finding the cleanest beaches. It pulls data from more than 100 beach-monitoring sources for real-time updates on water quality and cleanliness. IIt also has details about amenities and parking. The app is free for iOS and Android.
sunZapp: This app tells you what you need to keep from getting burned. Users enter their skin type, location and sky conditions and the app will suggest what you need to do. It also features a useful time to let you know when you've been in the sun too long. The app is free for iOS and Android.
WRAL Weather app. The newly redesigned weather app from WRAL can detect your location, give you the latest forecast, radar and alert you when there's lightning nearby. It's free in the Apple and Google Play stores.
