Inmate dies in Goldsboro jail

An inmate in the Wayne County Detention Center became ill and died Thursday morning, authorities said.

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — An inmate in the Wayne County Detention Center became ill and died Thursday morning, authorities said.

The State Bureau of Investigation has been called in to review the incident.

Karen Rebecca Jones, 21, who was serving a seven-day sentence for driving while impaired, became ill at about 6 a.m., authorities said. Detention officers called paramedics to the jail, but she died before they arrived.
