Inmate assaults three Polk Correctional Institution officers
An inmate assaulted three Polk Correctional Institution officers with a homemade weapon Saturday morning, the North Carolina Department of Public Safety said in a release.

GRANVILLE COUNTY, N.C. — An inmate assaulted three Polk Correctional Institution officers with a homemade weapon Saturday morning, the North Carolina Department of Public Safety said in a release.
Two correctional officers were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and one officer has since been released.
Inmate Alexis Ramirez was taken to an outside medical facility for evaluation and medical treatment.
DPS will pursue criminal prosecution against Ramirez.
The incident is under internal investigation and local law enforcement was contacted.
