BELHAVEN, N.C. — Damage and injuries are reported after an apparent tornado touched down in eastern North Carolina on Monday.

National Weather Service meteorologist Lara Pagano says video of the storm indicates a tornado touched down near the Beaufort County town of Belhaven Monday afternoon. Weather researchers will seek to confirm the tornado strike and its path, length and force on Tuesday.

WITN reported that Belhaven Mayor Adam O'Neal said multiple people were injured in the town. O'Neal says a pickup truck was lifted off a highway and tossed it into a field. The mayor says a man and his son inside the truck were taken to the hospital.

Beaufort County Emergency Management Director John Pack says most of Belhaven was cut off from electricity after trees and power lines toppled.

Storms caused problems in Warren County, too. Winds uprooted several trees at the Warrenton Golf Club.
