Inflation worries? Good news for Raleigh: Grocery competition keeps prices in check

As inflation concerns have increased, so has the rhetoric indicating that grocery prices are through the roof. This is simply not the case here in the Triangle. WRAL Smart Shopper found excellent grocery buys valid this week that are just as competitive as those we have enjoyed for many years.

As inflation concerns have increased, so has the rhetoric indicating that grocery prices are through the roof. This is simply not the case here in the Triangle. There are excellent grocery buys valid this week that are just as competitive as those we have enjoyed for many years.

As you can see in the deals list below, Raleigh-area grocery stores are still offering impressive prices, and this week is no exception.

Granted, this area is fortunate to have a number of different grocery stores, and the competition between these stores certainly helps keep prices at bay.

Stretch your grocery budget to stay ahead of inflation

Following are a number of ways you can stretch your grocery budget and find the best buys every week.

* Sales & Meal Planning: Your willingness to shop the impressive weekly sales and plan your meals around these deals will keep more of your hard-earned money in your wallet while ensuring your fridge and pantry remain well-stocked.

You are probably thinking that there is no way you have time to go to every store every week to pick up the top deals. Neither do I! I am not suggesting that you shop every store every week. Shopping the best buys at even just two stores each week will save you more money than doing all your shopping for the week at the same grocery store.

* Stock Up: When you find a stock-up price on a product you use often, buy a few weeks worth, if you are able. Sales are often cyclical and will come around again for most staple items. For meat and many produce items, you can freeze them in meal size portions to use in the coming weeks.
* Try New Brands: If your favorite name brand products are going up in price, being willing to try different brands, including store brands, can save you 50% or more when you shop the BOGO (Buy One Get One Free) sales.
* Read the Weekly Smart Shopper Grocery Deal Lists: To help you save as much money as possible and make it easier to find the best buys every single week, I write a list of the top grocery deals (with coupon match-ups, if applicable) for each of our local traditional grocery stores.

On WRAL.com and in the WRAL News app, simply search the name of the grocery store you prefer for the latest list of deals.

Keep in mind that the prices listed below are valid for most Raleigh-area grocery stores on the list. Some prices may vary in individual stores, especially outside of this area. You will want to check your ad (or online ad) to verify prices. The list below is not a guarantee of price for your specific store.
