RALEIGH, N.C. — A well-known businessman has resigned from the board of Wake Technical Community College after an investigation turned up an inflated resume.
Chad Price founded Mako Medical, which provides lab tests, in 2014, and the business has been a fast-growing success.
But a resume Price submitted to get appointed to the Wake Tech Board of Trustees lists degrees from two universities he didn't attend, according to The News & Observer newspaper.

He resigned from the board on Friday.

Wake Tech President Scott Ralls said Monday that Price has been "effective and impactful" in his service on the board over the past five years.

"In tendering his resignation, Chad said he did 'not want to be a distraction to the great work that is being done by Wake Tech every day,'” Ralls said in a statement. "We appreciate Chad Price’s service to our college and our students."

Price has also been a big political donor for the past few years. He's donated to campaigns in both parties, but mostly to Republicans, especially Lt. Gov. Dan Forest and committees that support him.

A search of campaign finance records shows Price, his business associates and family members have given at least $150,000 over the past eight years in support of Forest.

Also, Forest's younger son, 20-year-old Max Forest, has had a job at Mako since 2017.
A representative from Mako said Max Forest is a data analyst with the company. Andrew Dunn, a spokesman for Dan Forest's gubernatorial campaign, said the younger Forest is a business student at North Carolina State University who interns at Mako.
