Incident report provides new details about crash involving Wake deputy

A Wake County deputy injured following a crash on Transport Drive near U.S. Highway 401 and Old Stage Road south of Raleigh earlier this month was going 30 mph over the speed limit.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A Wake County deputy injured following a crash on Transport Drive near U.S. Highway 401 and Old Stage Road south of Raleigh earlier this month was going 30 mph over the speed limit, according to a police report that WRAL News recently obtained. .

The Wake County Sheriff’s Office said Deputy John Carlisle was taken to Rex Hospital for treatment, while Selena Williams, who was driving a BMW, was taken to WakeMed. Authorities did not disclose the severity of their injuries.

A third driver, Omar Searcy, was unhurt.

According to a crash report, Williams and Carlisle were driving north on U.S. 401 when Searcy failed to yield the right of way and collided with Carlisle. Carlisle ran off the road to the left, crossed the median and hit Williams head-on.

The report also says that Carlisle was going 75 mph in a 45-mph zone.

Authorities said a police dog was in the car with Carlisle, but the dog was OK.

The Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Carlisle was also involved in a crash in March 2017.
