In June, a tweet posted by the Twitter account of Republican U.S. Rep. Greg Murphy of North Carolina claimed that ‘no one forces anyone to have sex,’ according to a database that tracks tweets from elected officials.
Now, in a TikTok video that’s been viewed more than 2 million times, a woman who says she is Murphy’s daughter says the deleted tweet ignores her personal experience with the congressman.

“I was sexually assaulted when I was 21 and he helped me fill out the Title IX report and came to college and helped me do it,” the woman in the video says, as the deleted tweet appears on screen. “So obviously, this is very upsetting.”

The TikTok user, carmur4, posted other videos where she describes Murphy as her biological father. She did not elaborate on the details of her assault or how Murphy helped her.
WRAL has not been able to get in touch with the woman who posted the video. Murphy’s congressional office didn’t respond to emails or phone calls seeking comment about the TikTok video or the tweet that was captured by ProPublica’s tweet-tracking database.

Murphy, a surgeon and former state legislator, entered Congress in 2019 by winning a special election held after the death of former Rep. Walter Jones. This year he'll face Democrat Barbara Gaskins in North Carolina's 3rd Congressional District, which favors Republicans.

Murphy has faced criticism for tweets on multiple occasions.

Last year, a Capitol police officer died after a man plowed into him with his car. Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar, one of the two first Muslim women elected to Congress, tweeted her condolences and said the attack "would have been worse" if the assailant had an AR-15.

In a since-deleted tweet, Murphy's account responded: "Would have been worse @IIhan if they had been flying planes into the buildings also."

In October 2020, Murphy's Twitter account suggested that President Joe Biden selected Kamala Harris as his running mate only because of her race.

Harris "is a walking disaster," the tweet said. "She was only picked for her color and her race…is that how we pick our leaders now in America??"

The tweet was later deleted.
