Immersive James Cameron deep sea exhibiton coming to NC Museum of Natural Sciences
An immersive exhibition from director James Cameron will open this month at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh.
Posted — UpdatedThe exhibition will take visitors to the deepest known point of the Earth's surface – more than 33,000 feet down to the Challenger Deep of the Mariana Trench. Cameron did these solo dives in the DEEPSEA CHALLENGER submersible vessel which he designed and built.
The exhibit will also feature a recreation of a MiR submersible, immersive cinema presentations, rare artifacts and specimens from Cameron’s life as an explorer and filmmaker.
From the filmmaking side, the exhibit will include technical innovations Cameron developed while making the underwater film “The Abyss” in 1988.
Cameron's three expeditions to see the wreck of RMS Titanic are part of the "Titanic" portion of the exhibit, which will also feature costumes from the film, the iconic “Heart of the Ocean” necklace and Jack’s sketches, which were actually drawn by Cameron himself.
Visitors will be able to examine deep-ocean life, volcanic vents and geology via the Aliens of the Deep Expedition footage.
The Expedition Bismark section will include survivors of the battleship revisiting the last resting place of their comrades and their giant warship.
