Pleasant surprise awaits travelers at gas pumps
RALEIGH, N.C. — Colonial Pipeline closed off two fuel lines in the south because of Hurricane Ida, which made landfall in Louisiana as a Category 4 storm.

The company said the shut down was temporary and a "precautionary and routine safety measure," and gas is expected to still be available at stations across the southeast.

Oil production on the gulf has also been put on pause because of Hurricane Ida. More than 95% of the Gulf of Mexico's oil production facilities have been shut down, regulators said Sunday.

The location of Hurricane Ida's landfall is "one of the worst possible for the oil industry" and it could impact the major pipelines that carry fuel from the Gulf Coast to the East Coast markets, according to CNN.

The Colonial Pipeline is expected to get back to full service after the storm. The 5,500 mile pipeline provides nearly half of the East Coast's gasoline and diesel.

The company said its other two fuel lines will remain operational and will not be impacted by the storm.
