You asked for it, and now we've got it!

On Wednesday, we upgraded our iControl interactive radar and forecast application! The biggest change is under the hood: Instead of being based on the Flash plug-in, which made it unusable on computers and devices without Flash capability like the iPhone and iPad, it is now assembled in HTML5. Now, you can use iControl on a much wider range of computers, tablets and smartphones.

The new HTML5 iControl includes the same features from before, including the ability to zoom down to your back yard and track storms using radar data. You can animate the radar or step back and forth in time using the time bar at the bottom. Like before, you can also zoom out to a nationwide view or to other areas in the country.

Perhaps you've got a vacation planned? Check out the forecast for here, there and your route along the way! By default, you will always begin with a view of central North Carolina, centered on Raleigh. For registered WRAL.com users, you can also change and save your default location and zoom level. Make sure to log into WRAL.com before attempting to save your changes.

While this isn't a new feature, you may not know that iControl also allows you to view future forecast data! Click on "Future" at the top of the application to see raw FutureCast computer model forecasts. These forecasts include everything from temperatures to expected cloud cover and rainfall totals. Please note: This is a single computer model forecast and hasn't been adjusted or corrected by WRAL meteorologists. It can be a helpful tool to visualize what the weather might do, but it is only one input of many into the WRAL forecasts you see on WRAL-TV, WRAL.com and the WRAL mobile applications for iPhone, iPad and Android devices.

We hope you enjoy the new and improved iControl. Let us know how you use it and what else you'd like us to add. As always, thanks for visiting WRAL.com!
