SAINT PAULS, N.C. — A major traffic hassle was unwinding by late afternoon Sunday.

Low-hanging power lines had closed part of Interstate 95 near Exit 31 (NC-20) in Robeson County for hours, forcing local traffic to detour onto N.C. Highway 20. A power pole was leaning over at the exit in Saint Pauls, causing the lines to come down and create a hazardous situation.

Traffic is backed up due to a closure on Interstate 95.

Duke Energy was able to restore the pole and the lines, allowing traffic to flow on I-95 just before 3 p.m.

Slick spots and crashes were reported across the state throughout the day. First Sgt. Chris Knox of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said at least two deaths could be attributed to the storm. Two people died in a single-car crash Sunday morning in Nash County.

Knox said troopers were very busy throughout the state as the agency was dealing with 'extremely high call volume.' There were more calls from interstates due to commuters driving faster on those roads. In Orange County, officials said at least a dozen vehicles were involved in incidents on I-40 and I-85 within the span of a few hours.

In Cary, the intersection of Warren Avenue and Cornwall Road was closed because of a downed power line in the road. Another power pole was in the road near the 2600 block of East Garner Road in Raleigh.

In Roxboro, police had to assist a vehicle stuck in the highway.

Both the driver and their car was ok.
